Delta 5 redux

Yet more Delta 5. It's not like there's an infinite supply but I've got five singles by them and if I'm going to post any of them I may as well do them all. I got them all at the same time for probably a buck apiece. I'll stop making excuses.

1980 - Anticipation

I'll also humbly admit that I didn't scan these ones myself, but copped the sleeves off of Discogs this time. Hence only the fronts of the second one here.  Perhaps if I have opportunity and fucks to spare, I'll go to the other computer wherein the appropriate sleeve scans reside and correct this terrible omission. I wouldn't exactly hold my breath either.

I really should eat something

Actually, I really should cook something.

There's still some leftovers to consume in the fridge, but there's also a duck that should be defrosted by now and in need of turning into deliciousness before I start my work week slog. No hurry though. I'll get it going in the middle of the night when I'm taking a break from Fallout 4 (which I can only assume I'll still be working my way through by the time this posts several months in the future)

So like whatever. It's time for some singles

Today's installment: Delta 5

The link tells the story or as much as you're likely to need. I picked these up because they were on Rough Trade in that sweet 1979-81 period where Rough Trade seemed to know how to pick 'em.

Two bass post-punk funk with a feminist slant or so the various descriptors tend to gravitate towards. It's still rock and roll to me. Kill Rock Stars put out a disc of their collected works if you like it. There's more stuff and better sound. Just saying.

Destroy All Monsters

I could type stuff. I could do research. I could put it all into my own words and pretend it's something original. It wouldn't be, but we could pretend.

Pretty much all you need to know is on the band's singer's web presence.

(She's also an accomplished visual artist. The sleeve art is hers as well.)

I won't bore you by rehashing it here

If Destroy All Monsters is remembered for anything it is that they had Ron Asheton of the Stooges in the band and a former member of the MC5 who joined the band right out of prison. That alone makes it ten times more punk rock than just about anything other than the Ramones coming out of New York at the time.

There's a single in between these two that is on my list for someday.

I have nothing more to say at this time

Not Dreaming

A couple weeks back or something. I put up the Dadamah singles. Here's the Lp

This is Not a Dream (1992)

More lo-fi dreamy darkness swirling around in a long playing format.
Now you have all that Dadamah released in the brief time they existed.
You're welcome.

13th. Time for Hula Hoop.

Here we go again. A couple more nice singles for you to enjoy.

They were good enough to do a session for John Peel. They ought to be good enough for the likes of you.

Ben Hogan was a golfer. I don't personally understand the appeal of golf. It just doesn't seem like fun to me.

Puppies in a Sack

Sometimes there's just not a lot to say and the music needs to speak for itself.

the Delphobics (1980)

For the most part, I've always found NYC to be highly overrated for music. There were certainly some great and highly influential bands that came from there that I absolutely love, but lots and lots of half baked crap that people still make a fuss over simply because it arose from a famous place that smells like urine and desperation.

This single isn't one of those however. They fittingly called their record label "Fake Doom" It's perfect listening for quiet nights in the bunker with a can of tinned meat.

Dancing Cigarettes ( 1981)

Bloomington Indiana. It had an extremely vibrant little music scene at the same time that all everything else was going down everywhere else and the world only paid attention to London and New York. It's way too bad because there was some great stuff happening there where the folks were making music for the sole reason of amusing themselves without any real dream of a write up in Creem magazine. Gulcher Records documented a lot of it. Here's a fine example of that. It's odd in all the right ways.

Dadamah

New Zealand. It's a small country with a small pool of  musicians who all end up in multiple bands with multiple other musicians and in then end everybody in the entire country is only three degrees of separation from having been in the Chills at one time or another.

Kim Pieters, Peter Stapleton, Roy Montgomery, Janine Stagg.

Kim Pieters has been in : Cobweb Iris, Dadamah, Doramaar, Flies Inside The Sun, Rain, Sleep

Peter Stapleton has been in: Cobweb Iris, Dadamah, Eye, Flies Inside The Sun, PSN Electronic, Rain , Scorched Earth Policy, Sleep, The Pin Group, The Terminals, Vacuum, Victor Dimisich Band

Janine Stagg was in Dadamah

So these folks apparently liked to make music together. Were in several different bands in various combos over the years before bringing Dadamah into existence. We're just glad they did and managed to make some recordings of it.

An Endless Tuesday

February.

It's the month where winter is nearing the end but it's still really fucking winter for quite a while longer. I've always thought of February as the endless Tuesday of months. The week has already started. You've gotten over the Monday part of it but there's nothing to do but to continue to slog along with your head down.

Here's some more Crude.
