Vermont.

It's that day.

Cross another off.

Vermont.

Fit to Travel (1994)

Madelines. From Burlington, VT.

With the minimal effort I usually put into these things, I found a current website for one of the dudes, Colin Clary. He seems to have remained in Vermont.

The other dudes in the band look to have moved to NYC and formed a band called Pilot to Gunner

Haven't heard them, but I really do quite like this one. Kind of a nice shoe gaze feel.

I like my shoes.

Snowplow/Madelines split (1994)

That same year they split a single on Split Records with like minded gazers Snowplow.

Two more sides to enjoy until the X kicks in.

Poverty Pays Off

Another night of records.
Playing Hulaboy. Typing Bullshit.

First Steps & False Alarms (1995)

This being a collection of home demos compiled by David Kilgour of the Clean fame.

Some songs ended up being on other releases. Some didn't. Some are just kind of proof of concept drafts of things put to tape. It's all part of the process for an artist as prolific as Mr. Kilgour seems to be.

I personally lack the stamina.

But I did kind of luck out by being poor. As with some of the late 90s Fall lps, I ended up buying some things on vinyl because they were usually a few bucks cheaper than the compact disc releases.

Now thanks to the resurgent vinyl fetishists some of those records have become nice little expensive collector's items.

But for this one Ajax records took the time and expense to get a decent pressing together.
So that's nice.

It's all nice.

Fuck Titles. Here's a Compilation

13th

Here's some lo-fi rock and roll

Elastic Jet Mission (1994)

It's on Slampt.
This is the kind of stuff that the 90s excelled at.
Lo-fi garage noise.
Bands named things like Yummy Fur, Delicate Vomit or Skinned Teen.

All the Marbles

Robert Schneider wasn't the only one who called a project Marbles

Marbles (2006)

Once upon a time in mid-70s New York City a group of gents called themselves Marbles and put out a couple of insanely good pop singles that should have enshrined them in the halls of Valhalla, but instead they languished in obscurity and were all but forgotten.

The first single was "Red Lights" and came out on Ork Records. (I'm holding out for a copy with the elusive picture sleeve. It's one that I need an original copy of.)

I picked up the second single years ago in a dollar bin and played the fuck out of it. The kind of record you play multiple times because it's just that good.

"Forgive and Forget" is the shit, man.

In 2006 Vinyl Countdown compiled both singles and a bunch of live tracks onto this lp that I felt like I paid too much for at the time, but maybe not so much now.

This is complex, intricate and well written and catchy pop songs.

You need this in your life.

Upgrading

As long as I'm here.

Pyramid Landing and Other Favorites (1997)

I was looking at my Marbles folder and realized I needed to upgrade the rips for this disc.
So here we are. More of the Robert Schneider solo stuff from the previous post in a long playing compact disc format.

Life is good and it's Summer.

That Guy in That One Band

Multitasking is messing with my head.

It's also dinner time and I need to take a shower.

Nevertheless I persist.

Go Marilee (1997)

As stated in the the insert, this Marbles is just Robert Schneider better known as the driving force behind Apples in Stereo doing his own solo recording schtick.

I reflexively purchased anything with the Elephant Six logo on it.
I have no regrets.

Sweet lo-fi pop songs.

That's a good thing.

I Love the Summer (1998)

More of the same.

If you're familiar with Apples in Stereo then you have an idea of Mr. Schneider's writing and recording style.

It's the perfect stuff of making mixtapes for girls.

What's not to love?
