DQE is short for Dairy Queen Empire. It's pretty obvious that actual Dairy Queen probably wouldn't much to do with this duo that they shortened it much like KFC did when the state trademarked the name of Kentucky and tried to make businesses license its use.
It's very difficult to pass by a record with that as a title. I couldn't. You may not either.
Getting a bit folkier but still quite rough around the edges. You could play this one for your mother.
Thanks! I saw DQE once. It was hard to tell whether Grace Braun's onstage persona was real, but she seemed both truly uncomfortable and deeply passionate about performing. DQE struck me as outcasts among outcasts: I didn't go to a lot of ATL shows but they were clearly not in the inner circle of the local scene. There seemed to be people elsewhere who really liked what they were doing, but DQE were prophets without honor in Coca-Cola country.
ReplyDeleteThat's kind of the opposite of the Mpls/St Paul local scene where nobody gives a shit about a local band until people elsewhere do. Then you're proudly claimed as Minnesotan.
