Mopping Up

I got not much left to say.

Shined Nickels and Loose Change (2001)

Somewhere along the line life inevitably catches up with you and you realize that you need to get a real fucking job.

And here is the third album by the Rondelles.

Which is just a nice compilation of various singles and bits and bobs from the archives.

Including a pass at Madonna's hit from when the band was likely still in diapers, "Like a Prayer"

I was already an adult in 1989.

Now I still feel old.

If it's 20 years old does that mean this is Classic Rock now?

Oh Yeah, Compilation Day

 Yes.
And a double disc set to boot.

I'm too good to you people.

Snowstorm: A Tribute to Galaxie 500 (2001)

I posted the back so you could get an idea of the luminaries involved. (And remarkably it actually doesn't have a Boyracer track. Though Hula Hoop are involved)

Discogs with the full track list

A pretty much mixed bag here.
Your mileage will vary and your highlights may differ from mine.

That's perfectly fine.

Enjoy.

A Quick One and I'm Away

I got nothing.

Modern Gal (2001)

Bunsen Honeydew.
From New York.
Their final release under that name on Little Teddy Recordings.

The little label says "Original New York Punk Rock"

Don't take that at face value.

I can't remember how I came to have this. Part of me wants to say it was a bonus that somebody threw in the box with a large order of 45s and another part of me thinks I picked it up for a pittance because it was on Little Teddy.
Either way. I got my money's worth.

Sideshow All the Way (1996)

Flowchart.

This is very pleasant to listen to on a rainy day.
I hope it's raining where you are.

A Small Variety Assortment

I need to get some shit done.

Here's some sweet prime 7 inch Indiepop compilations.

You may need these.

 Crayola Catastrophy (2001)

A1 Tugboat Fantastic! I'll Stick With You
A2 The Casino Ashtrays Gilded
B1 The Summer In Between Simple & True
B2 The National Splits Your David Starship

Since buying this on a whim I've been slowly acquiring every release on the Kittridge Records label. I haven't been disappointed in anything but the purposeful misspelling of "catastrophe" on this record.
It offends my sensibilities.

Kissing Book/Cherry Ice Cream Smile split (1998)

A1 Kissing Book Teen Club
A2 Kissing Book Just Another Pop Song
B1 Cherry Ice Cream Smile Squeaky Clean
B2 Cherry Ice Cream Smile Amelia Earhart

One of the hallmarks of mid to late 90's indiepop bedroom label releases besides the low quality of the vinyl and mastering, was choking the sleeve with massive amounts of bits of paper all kinds of haphazardly cut with scissors.

Whole forests were decimated for this.

This one compounds the immense clutter by including a wooden ice cream spoon with the band's name emblazoned on it like we were sitting here forever  with a nice Italian Ice and no eating implement just about ready to dig into it with our fingers out of sheer desperation before buying this single and the day being saved.

I want nice primitive pop songs, not junk that I feel compelled to keep with the rest of the overstuffed package because that's how it came and I have a pathological need for the intactness of things.

Fortunately I got those too.

Bonus material!

Milky Way No. 1 (1991)

A1 HoneyBunch Nothing But Trouble
A2 Small Factory The Giant Merry-Go-Round
A3 The Bachelor Pad Sunshower Sun

I thought I'd already done this one a long while back when I did all the Honeybunch singles. Apparently not. So here you go.

Leap Year and Other Really Annoying Bullshit

So this is the year we get an extra day of February.
Hoo-fucking-ray.

But there is more. With this post I will have (if this thing hasn't been shut down by the Man at some point in between) queued up a new post over a full year ahead of time.
It's 3:49am on the 26th of February, 2019 as of this particular sentence.

So like some weary musical ghost ship on autopilot this meandering hulk of half assed bullshit can continue on without any fresh input from me for one entire journey around the sun. Four full seasons (more or less) will have come and gone before I need to add to the pile.

Hopefully I used that year constructively. (My hope is to use it to make my own terrible music and digitize and preserve the umpteen volumes of cassettes dating back to 1988 I've made which I'm not going to put up here. You're welcome.)

This day is also a year and a day (though for me currently still a couple of days off) since I had the opportunity to see the Chills for a second time since a truly memorable and top ten experience seeing them in 1990 in the 7th St Entry after "Submarine Bells" was released and the last show they were sharing on the tour with Blake Babies (who I vaguely knew back in Boston since I'd worked with their first bass player, Seth.)

Which leads me to this post.
I feel like I want to do something kind of special with it

So today in honor of my upcoming (as of this typing) chance to see the Chills after a number of decades I'm posting the limited, had to buy it directly from Martin himself in 2001, three disc set of Chills rarities and live tracks with umpteen tracks that were never recorded in studio.

My physical copy is in the other room, but it's one of the initial signed numbered ones. I sent Martin a check for something like fifty US dollars and a while later it arrived in all its glory.

People are also asking absolutely ridiculous prices for it on Discogs right now.

If I were asked by Numero Group to spearhead some reissues this would likely be my second pick right after the Dolly Mixture "Everything and More" triple disc set that came and went in a heartbeat. (and I missed). That'd be huge.

But nobody asks me.

At that time in 1990 they also did a short in-store performance at Oarfolkjokeopus. It was a lovely low key affair. At one point Martin was at a loss as to what to play next. I offered "Green Eyed Owl", but that version of the band didn't know it. It's still my favorite Chills song....

Still procrastinating

I  was going to only queue one more post, but here we are.

Presence of Greatness (2001)

On the Bus Stop Label. Bronze was the brainchild of one Paul Handyside who had previously been in an 80's band called Hurrah! that I know fuck all about.

I got this to fill in a gap in my Bus Stop Label singles collection and have listened to it a sum total of twice so far.

We're all in the same boat now.

Girlwish (1992)

This is the debut single by Fudge who are the 8th band with that moniker on Discogs. This particular Fudge were from Richmond, Va. Here's a brief write up they got in the Chicago Tribune. It kind of lays shit out pretty succinctly. Their other two singles on the Bus Stop Label will follow in the next post.

Stay tuned.

How many of you are stable?

Rude All the Time (2001)

Originally released as a very limited 7" in 2001. Around the time of "Are You Missing Winner?" which was a pretty passable Fall release. (though not nearly as good as 2003's "The Real New Fall LP Formerly 'Country On The Click'" which is a stone cold Fall classic

This is the also limited Cd rerelease with a couple of extra tracks.

According to Discogs they are thus:

1 Distilled Mug Art (Mix 15)
2 "I Wake Up In The City" (Mix 5)
3 Where's The Fuckin Taxi? Cunt (Mix 17)
4 My Ex Classmates Kids (Mix 4)
