Them Them Them

I'm having another record night with some of the things I picked up on a recent jaunt to Seattle, WA. To be honest I spent way more money on records than I really planned or wanted to, but we were only there for a few days, so it was buy it or regret it.

I can mostly afford the records, but I don't have time for the regret.
Middle age is like that.

One fun thing was flipping through the $1 cd bins downtown. Cds are apparently very out of favor these days and some things just don't sell anymore, if they ever did in any capacity to begin with.

Me. Me. Me. (1995)

So yeah, I picked this OOP gem by Air Miami up for a single US dollar. I count this as a complete win. I may be wrong, but know I'm not, that the Washington DC band Unrest deserve another look and posthumous critical reappraisal for their recorded output. They covered a lot of ground in their brief existence leading into Mark Robinson's record label Teenbeat. (which also needs to be looked at again in hindsight)

From the ashes of Unrest, Robinson and Bridget Cross formed the even briefer existing outfit Air Miami which picked up where Unrest left off and a bit further.
It's lovely.

The tl:dr of which is that this their third and final full length is fucking wonderful.

There I said it.

I can't be bothered to look up and link them, but I know there are a couple of singles also posted sometime last year.

Happy?

It's Been a Little While

Pop. It's presumably Spring here in the Northern Hemisphere when this pops out of the queue and onto your screen. A time of rebirth and green and warm breezes.
That usually calls for pop music in my world.

And because I haven't done an Lp in a long while it seems

Here is one.

Cecilian Ann - Un Segundo (1998)

Not long ago, as of this typing anyway, I bought a bunch of 90's pop stuff off of Discogs for really really cheap. Like $0.25 for a record cheap. I got a lot of stuff from this guy in two different orders of indie pop stuff from the end of the last century.

This is one of the things I took a gamble on. I couldn't really lose, you know. If I liked it, I win because it was ridiculously cheap. If it sucked. I spent next to nil on it.

I won.

Cecilia Ann are/were (?) a Spanish band on Elefant Records who presumably named themselves after the Pixies cover of a song originally by the Surftones. (I make this assumption this based on the fact that Cecilia Ann's sound owes a lot more to the Pixies than to American Surf music.)

It doesn't matter anyway. "Tengo SueƱo" is a good tune. They sing in Spanish. And I like this record.

So there.

I Got the Splits

Here we go again.

Split singles.
What to do with them? How to file them? Do we even like the idea?

I don't know. There's a lot of them.
Here's a couple of examples.

This one has Bunnygrunt.  Who released enough stuff on enough releases that I keep inadvertently gathering a collection of their recordings when I buy other records.

Like this one which I initially picked up for the raw pop sounds of Tullycraft.

So there's that.

I don't know anything about these bands or this label or this release. But there are acoustic guitars, a female vocalist and a fiddle on the Billy Crosby's track while the Anomie track is instrumental. It also has a fiddle as well as an accordian and slide guitar and sounds like it was recorded in their practice space.

These are the facts as I know them and present to you.
You're welcome.

And Now for Something Else

I need a shower.
I'm typing instead.
For now.

Bella Vista (1998)

So recently I've been kind of exploring the world of 90's indie pop. And there's a metric ton of it.

While the rest of the world was getting grungy and dancing and all kinds of other tedious things, there existed a small secret underworld of people making sweet delicate pop music on a legion of tiny bedroom labels. It's some fascinating stuff.

This is but one fine example. It's by Bella Vista.

Prepare your earholes because there's going to be a lot of it...

Recordando (1998)

This is a release on the Spanish pop label Elefant of the elusive recording artist Ana D.

I like it and don't even want to try and describe it.
I don't need to. You listen. You come up with your own set of adjectives and adverbs.
Leave me out of it.

Nearly Done

In which we continue with what was started years ago and continued a few days ago...

No seriously, this is nearly the end. It's a single sided flexi with one song. A new version of a previously released song (see previous post).

These two objects represent the final bits of straight up Boyracer releases from the original run of the band 1992-97 with the exception of a handful of scattered compilation tracks scattered across the world that I'm still tracking down.

The last one I got. The second Sarah records ep which I somehow got ridiculously cheap from an Amazon seller. I'm not complaining. It was worth it.

Now as far as I currently know, there are still four compilations that I need to get to complete this Boyracer '92-'97 discography (barring another handful of cassette only compilations that I don't even want to get into because I'm an obsessive collector, but I have to draw a line somewhere...)

So be forewarned there's still more to dribble out.

(and I'm not ruling out redoing all the rips over again since I've changed my process since then and kind of want to bring them up to current snuff....)
