I Don't Know What To Do With Splits

I'm roasting a chicken stuffed with onion, apples and sage.
I'm going to throw the remaining apples and onions that wouldn't fit along with beets around the chicken to roast with it and in the juice in a little bit.

I've got potatoes ready to go as well.

A nice rounded meal.

But in the meantime, I have a little time to kill.
I also realized that there were a number of split singles & flexi discs clogging up the epic SSC folder that I wasn't sure what to do with.
I'd vaguely considered using them for Compilation Days, but also realized I had a fuckload of compilations so that it would be unnecessary.

So I'm just going to post them over the next several posts and have fucking done with it.

Here we go....

 Mates of State/Fighter D (1999)

Mates of State have moved around a lot, but were based in San Francisco at this time according to the address. I saw them sometime in the late 90's at the 400 Bar touring with Apples in Stereo if memory serves.

Fighter D seems to have been from Oakland.

Orange Cake Mix/Füxa (1997)

Orange Cake Mix is Jim Rao and all who sail with him.

 Füxa were from Detroit, Mi

A Pair of Records from 1979

I am full of Beef and Broccoli.
My colon surely appreciates the vegetable fiber.
I have a window open.
Life is ok.
Even the previous year's quarantine from whence I am typing.

Hello future.

R.U.R. (1979)

R.U.R. were from Detroit in the state of Michigan.

They took their moniker from a play by Czech author Karel Čapek's 1921 titled "R.U.R." that introduced the word "robot" to the popular lexicon.

They weren't the only band to use the name, but the only one I have a record by.

It's Rock and Roll like Detroit made Rock and Roll.

I like it and I don't dance to it.

Teenage Lifestyle (1979)

The Penetrators were from Syracuse, NY.

This isn't an original copy. It's a 2011 reissue on Windian Records but it is low fidelity, garage punk rock from the heyday.

So just cram it and jam it.
Jam to it.

There were at least a dozen or more bands that called themselves the Penetrators.
This is one of them.

Dance to it.
I dare you.

My Laptop Keyboard is kind of Screwed Up

I've always had some issues with the keyboard on this Lenovo laptop that I use. I used to think that some of it was just that I was a terrible typist, but now years later it's very apparent that the keys kind of suck. The most recent development is that the 'a' & 's' keys don't work for periods of time when I open it back up. (Used to have issues with the 'n' key too.)

You try and write sentences without using an 'a' or an 's'. It sucks.

It's the 13th....

Tremor Records provides us with a sweet little compilation to usher in the decade of Reagan. It's a rock and roll maelstrom with the usual suspects in the Tremor lineup. Cinecyde (who I'm kind of amazed still exist in some form) and the Twenty Seven who appear on multiple of those Killed by Death/Bloodstains type compilations.

For me the cool thing is the introduction to some of the lesser known bands in the Tremor stable like the Service who add a neat little phaser heavy number or the female fronted band the Cubes.

Yeah, as I listen back to this while I type and drink my afternoon coffee I find myself quite satisfied with this purchase. There's some very nice lesser known and unheard stuff here.

Welcome to my world.

Flirting with Detroit

Flirt were from Detroit and featured the husband and wife duo of Skid and Rockee Marx.
I think the cover pretty much makes the record self explanatory. It sounds like you think it will based on that sleeve.

Rockee was clearly pregnant when they made this in 1978. That kid is now almost 40.
I feel old now.

This is a bit slicker and also sounds more than a little bit like you would expect from the cover.

You know, I really thought that 10" vinyl would be a bigger thing back in the early part of the 80's. It just never took off. Didn't need to, I suppose. So there you have it.

Destroy All Monsters

I could type stuff. I could do research. I could put it all into my own words and pretend it's something original. It wouldn't be, but we could pretend.

Pretty much all you need to know is on the band's singer's web presence.

(She's also an accomplished visual artist. The sleeve art is hers as well.)

I won't bore you by rehashing it here

If Destroy All Monsters is remembered for anything it is that they had Ron Asheton of the Stooges in the band and a former member of the MC5 who joined the band right out of prison. That alone makes it ten times more punk rock than just about anything other than the Ramones coming out of New York at the time.

There's a single in between these two that is on my list for someday.

I have nothing more to say at this time

I may need to step this up

I  don't know. I go on jags where I do up a shit ton of records. Get them all set and then spend a month or so not even looking at the turntable. Then there are times where I've got insane amount of postable crap and I set it the queue for months in advance at a not overly tight schedule of at least once a week.

There sometimes just doesn't seem to be enough time to post all the junk I feel like posting. I get so far ahead of myself, I'm already setting up shit for next year. I may have to  start posting stuff at a faster rate to fit it all in a timely fashion to where my head is at.

Not that any of this matters to you. You just want new things at a constant rate.

From Detroit. Kind of what you expect it to sound like. I'm not saying it's a bad thing.

From the label that gave us the early singles by the Fall. Looks like some high school age shenanigans. Sounds about right. One of the kids plays guitar in an overcoat and tie. Make of that what you will. It looks like it could be uncomfortable to me. But fashion has its price...

Detroit

As I'm typing this, it's late August. This past week I went to Target Field and watched the Twins annihilate the Tigers 20-6. It was difficult to watch. So here's a couple singles by Detroit bands.

The Algebra Mothers (or A-Moms) were a rather short lived band that put out this one single in 1979.

They were led by a black guitarist/vocalist by the name of  Gerald Collins. Given the amount of hype that's recently centered around the band Death, I'm surprised that nobody's dig deeper to unearth this monster. It's certainly to my ears more "punk" than Death who sound more like Thin Lizzy to me than anything else. Whatever. This is awesome sauce. Lap it up. It's the only thing they released.

I'm not sure how I came across this other single by All Systems Go. It may have just had a decent eBay ad and a low enough price tag to intrigue me.

They appear to have been a blip on the recorded map (and not the same Michigan band currently using the name). There is also apparently a crappy picture sleeve to go with this, but I didn't get it. The song worth listening to is naturally the one called "Get Wasted". It's a snazzy little pop punk/new wave number extolling the virtues of imbibing alcoholic beverages for fun sung in a high voice befitting a cartoon character. The other side is however some kind of MOR crap that makes you wonder if it's even the same band. It's pretty miserable and included for the sake of completeness and to soothe my anal retentive tendencies. You can listen to it once and delete.
